Investing in Wheaton’s Future

Star Bank partners with city of Wheaton to unlock new potential for economic growth

We believe strong communities are built through partnership, investment, and a long-term commitment to the places we serve. That belief recently came to life through a unique collaboration with the city of Wheaton.

Star Bank has officially donated its former downtown building, located at 1019 and 1021 Broadway, to the City of Wheaton. We are proud to see the unused property into a new opportunity for growth.

After relocating to our newly remodeled branch across the street, the previous building remained unused. Rather than allowing the space to sit vacant, we saw an opportunity to do something more meaningful. We partnered with the city to help reimagine the space for future use and economic growth in the town.

Through this agreement, the City of Wheaton will acquire the property at a significantly reduced cost, creating an opportunity to attract new business, support economic development, and bring renewed energy to the downtown area.

This was an opportunity to think beyond a transaction and focus on long-term impact,” said a Katie Wahlquist, Star Bank President & CEO. “We care deeply about the communities we serve, and when we saw a path to help the City of Wheaton create new opportunities for growth, it was an easy decision. We are excited to see how this space evolves and contributes to the future of the community.”

City leaders have already identified the property as a potential catalyst for business growth and job creation. By working together, we are helping set the stage for new ideas, new businesses, and new opportunities in Wheaton. At Star Bank, we are proud to play a role in supporting the long-term vitality of our communities. It's our mission to show up through our banking services, volunteering, or partnerships like this one. We are always looking for ways to make a meaningful impact for our neighbors and local businesses.

We are excited to see what the future holds for this space and for Wheaton.
